During our first ever 21st century learning day here at MSMS, students were able to choose sessions run by teachers. The purpose of the 21st Century Learning Day was for students to experience real world skills. I chose to bring fashion design into the art curriculum and bring students over from BHS to work with middle school students. Below is a description of the workshop: Choosing 1 of 2 options, students worked with senior high school students to create either a fashion croquis or a paper garment in order to identify the skills necessary to work in the clothing industry. The fashion industry is a thriving economical career option for students, from fashion designers, merchandisers, stylists, buyers, and more. This workshop will challenge students to creatively problem solve within the realm of the fashion industry, choosing either to create a garment or to create a fashion croquis (sketch).
