Fashion Designer's Collection

Background:
Many of you strive to be fashion designers. Fashion designers work extremely hard to be successful. Shows like Project Runway and America's Next Top Model let us see how they operate. You all will be learning about famous fashion designers, their collections, and how they operate. Alexander McQueen passed away a few years ago, but his designs live on. Sarah Burton designs for McQueen. You will be like Sarah Burton for this project.

Assignment:
Your assignment is to research a famous fashion designer and his/her Spring collection. You will create a presentation board based upon the designer’s collection. That board will include your own personal croquis that includes an outfit you designed that could be included in the collection. You will also write a biography about the designer. The apps that you downloaded at the beginning of the year should help you with this (The Cut, The Collection). The project is an OUT OF CLASS ASSIGNMENT. 

The Presentation Board
Choose a fashion designer
The Board should be BLACK (18x24) foamcore
The Board should include the following:

• Name of Designer
• Color swatches (squares)
• Large Croquis based on their Spring 2013 collection (drawn and designed by you)
• Include at least 3 flat sketches of garment pieces from the collection
• 4 printouts (on Laserjet) of examples of collection (if you cannot find the examples, you must choose another designer or use another collection)
• NO PRINTOUTS on White Paper. The name of the artist should be meticulously cut out. 
• ****Alignment is key. Plan out your layout before you begin gluing down.
  

Biography
2 page biography about the designer 
At least 3 sources in MLA format
Include country of origin, birthdate, facts about their design aesthetic, career, etc.
****Spelling and grammar will count

Objectives:

• Analyze the spring 2013 collection of a fashion designer (previously chosen by the student) and apply their design concepts to your croquis design.
• Research the life, goals, and artistic style of a fashion designer in order to write a brief 2 page biography on the designer.
• Using previously learned layout concepts, create a dynamic composition poster which includes a croquis, 3 flat garments, 3 images from the designer’s spring 2013 collection, and colors, shapes, or textures that mimic the designer’s collection.

Grading:
Your project will count as TWO project grades. You will be graded on the following:

• Craftsmanship
  
• Technical Quality
  
• Research
• Creativity/Innovativeness
• Spelling/Grammar
• Biography has 3 cited sources in MLA format
