Background:
A successful graphic designer knows how to merge type and image. Sought after graphic designers not only design, but also work with a variety of media. In this project, we will study watercolor painting and how it can be used in a digital design.

Project:
Your task is to create two different expressive music festival posters. One design will utilize image as the focal point and the other will utilize typography as the focal point. Both posters must have watercolor incorporated in some manner. The music festival can be your choice; it can be real or imagined. You will use BOTH Illustrator and Photoshop.

Objectives:
  • Learn how typography affects mood and select appropriate typefaces for your designs.
  • Create two different designs that are both successful in different ways.
  • Use a non-digital media (watercolor) and incorporate it into your designs.

Steps:
  • Create a Pinterest Board and title it: Music Poster. 
  • Sketch at least 4 different designs.
  • You may begin designing on the computer OR start with watercolor.
  • Scan your watercolor into your computer.
  • Create 1 design merging type & image but with IMAGE as the main focal point.
  • Create 1 design merging type & image but with TYPOGRAPHY as the main focal point.
  • Your designs should be in one file in Illustrator (using 2 artboards).


Specs:
  • Create file in Adobe Illustrator with 2 different artboards
  • ***Be sure to name your layers
  • Poster size: 13x19 inches
  • Text must include the following:
    -Name of the festival
    -Date
    -Location
    -Website
    -Bands included (optional)

  • Creativity
    What makes the poster stand out?

  • Technical Quality
    Have I made the best use of my resources (Illustrator, Photoshop, watercolor)?
